ROBERT BRAIN - AN AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL TAPESTRY
Living eventfully by Glenn Barkley
Published by Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, 2016
Robert Brain’s prolific tapestry practice explores themes such as homoerotica, art history and gender politics and is imbued with irreverent humour and unexpected juxtapositions. The survey exhibition An Autobiographical Tapestry illustrates eight decades of the artist’s remarkable life: from his childhood in Tasmania; life in London and Europe in the 50s, 60s and 70s; career as an anthropologist and academic; widespread travels; and life in the Blue Mountains where he is now based. Glenn Barkley has written the catalogue essay, entitled Living eventfully, to accompany the exhibition. The exhibition runs from 13 May - 26 June 2016.
